Hello Zay
Lets not make this seem personal arguments against GP, AL or ICT teachers.
You seem to be one of those who has a L’amour propre.
I would like to have ur opinion about the importance of teaching ICT to rpimary children, i.e teaching as it is being done now. Dont u think that in this era, in yr 2010, when the policy makers r all 4 promoting ICT tools, we should educate, train and arm our kids with ICT education right from primary level.
Just to tell u, I’m not against ICT teachers. I dont hold any grudge against them. In fact i have some very good friends among the ICT teachers. Also, I have helped some people to devise some sort of syllabus as well as a workbook for ICT being given that i’m rather very much conversent with ICT toolsn ICT education.
Concerning the free periods u were mentioning, let me point out here that if u count the AL periods it makes a total of 10 periods per week. U get 5 periods free per week (one per day as u said). But the difference is that u get really free periods. No kids remaining with u at all. Whereas 4 us there r some pupils who stay back n dont do AL. They r still under our reaponsibillity. N in my case, more than half of my class dont do AL. So, we cant really call these free periods.
Hi Zay,
I wish I could have u as ICT teacher in my school! I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you but I have not yet come across any teacher who talks positively about ICT teachers. As I’ve said I have nothing about ICT teachers.I’m not generalising. I think the ministry has to come up with a defined syllabus and there should be a follow up of ICT teachers’ work and also assessments. Then only ICT will have as much consideration as other subjects.
HI,
Well, I think its very important to educate our children about using ICT effectively since we are living in an ICT world.. It would have been nice to have people like you in the Education sector who could voice out this issue to the ministry!
I, personally would have a great pleasure in teaching ICT as Im doing, its really very great to teach ICT to kids on a permanent basis.
Concerning the free periods, I made an error, its not1 period per day, its one period per week!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just imagine!!!!!!!!!!
Replying to Naz, Unfortunately you didn’t come across my colleagues or ex colleagues……..Hope one day you come across someone.
Hi everyone
As i pointed out earlier, if we carry out a survey we will c that many teachers, GP, ICT n all r in favour of having ICT teachers in schools for the teaching of ICT on a permanent basis. We need to define a proper syllabus, textbooks, etc. N most important of all, it must become assessable n examinable. Then only will parents, teachers n everyone value ICT as a subject rightly. Thanks.
B +ve
Thanks Ally! I really meant what I say. You see among the few ICT Teachers that we have actually, many of them like their job tremendously and it’s let’s say contre coeur that we have to accept to being redefined as ICT Support as we also need to feel secure in our jobs as we also help in running our families. Actually I am doing 2 schools, one of which is a five star. What I’ve got to say is that the 1st time, I entered the schools, the GP teachers were not welcoming at all because my predecessors, sorry to say but it’s a fact, were lazy and were not doing their work properly. But as days went, the GP teachers accepted me and acknowledged that they were wrong in assuming that I was like my colleagues that were there before me. My pupils enjoy their class very much and I’m on good terms with my HT, DHT, GP and AL Educators. And I don’t feel alien anymore. You see, I was not accepted in the first place as I was being categorised to the one or two black sheep that we have amongst us. And the black sheep also exist among HTs, DHTs, GPs and ALs also. So we can’t generalise that everybody is lazy if by bad luck we happened to encounter one.
Hello Farah
Thank you very much. U r indeed very much right in what u said. Lets hope things move 4 the better.
I sincerely believe that the Gtu and ministry has done a great job by making ict teachers become ist support officers. They have been given a big boost in their career.seize it.At least you will be a civil servant which you were not before.your employment will be permanent n pensionable.many had complained that they dont get loans from financial institutions. aren’t eligible to work during elections etc. now all will be the past. so cheer up and thank those who have done lots 4 u.unfortunately many of you are not hsc holders. thats the main reason 4 ze delay in enrollment.try to upgrade the qualifications for those you are still lagging behind a+
