Teachers News Aug 2009 : RODRIGUES
As president of the CITU (Congress of Independent Trade Unions) Mr Vinod Seegum was invited at the inauguration ceremony of the Workers Education Centre of the Rodrigues Public Service Workers Union which was held on 11 July 2009 at Mont Lubin, Rodrigues. Mr Seegum seized the opportunity to visit few schools on Friday 10 July 2009 and convened all Rodriguan teachers for a meeting at Basile Allas Govt. School on Saturday 11 July 2009 after the inauguration ceremony of Mont Lubin. The president of the GTU thanked all Rodriguan teachers for their support and trust in the team at the head of the GTU. It is to be noted that 99% of Rodriguan teachers are favourable to the actual leading team of the GTU which is indeed unprecedented. GTU president also had a meeting with the Rodrigues Education Commission where he raised various issues such as DHT/HT promotion, ACE Diploma MIE/IGNOU/DPEM, Transfer of Teachers and security at schools in Rodrigues. GTU wishes to thank the Rodrigues GTU Regional Team , specially Marlette Nobin and Raffick Cader who are doing a marvelous job and who intervened positively at the meeting held with Mrs Capdor, Mrs Emilien and Mr Gooriah, DH of the Education Commission. Note also that GTU president has effected few unprecedented achievements in Rodrigues namely the start of MIE/IGNOU Diploma and the DPEM. The icing on the cake is the start of the last batch of ACE on 18 July 2009 wherein all remaining teachers have been included. Vinod Seegum has promised to send R 10,000 to our Rodriguan counterparts for Teachers Day to be celebrated with great pomp. We wish to inform Rodriguan teachers that the negotiations for the opening of a Regional Office are still on and a positive reply is expected soon. More information will follow suit.
