La GTU et la CITU prêtes à soutenir Amode Taher

La Government Teachers Union (GTU) et la Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITU), qui regroupe 20 syndicats représentant 25 000 travailleurs (secteur public et secteur privé), se disent solidaires avec Amode Taher, directeur de la Zone 4, qui est invité par son employeur, le ministère de l’Éducation, à donner des explications par écrit concernant une opinion qu’il a émise en tant que parent lundi dernier lors d’une émission sur une radio privée. C’est ce que nous a déclaré ce matin Vinod Seegum, président de la GTU et de la CITU.
Le ministère de l’Éducation avait été invité à se faire représenter afin de parler de la pandémie de grippe, et avait choisi Amode Taher à cet effet. Selon Vinod Seegum, qui dit avoir écouté l’intervention de M. Taher dans son intégralité, tout au long de l’émission, le représentant du ministère avait défendu son employeur sur toutes les questions posées par l’animateur.
À la toute dernière minute, toutefois, l’animateur devait poser une question supplémentaire à M. Taher, lui demandant si ” personnellement ” il était pour la fermeture des écoles. Ce dernier, qui devait répondre en tant que parent, confessa que ” mo pou dir ki momem mo finn konsey mo nies pou pa al lekol ” avant d’ajouter ” vous m’avez compris entre les lignes “. M. Seegum dit avoir appris que dès le lendemain, soit hier, le ministère a décidé de réclamer à Amode Taher des explications par écrit au sujet de cette déclaration.
Selon Vinod Seegum, le ministère estime que M. Taher a émis ” une opinion contraire à la ligne prônée par le ministre de tutelle “. Et de se demander si en démocratie, ” on ne peut émettre une idée personnelle, tout à fait humaine, compte tenu du problème posé par la grippe A, qui suscite partout toutes sortes de commentaires “.
D’ailleurs, soutient notre interlocuteur, lundi dernier, il se trouvait dans les couloirs du ministère de l’Éducation à l’IVTB House, Phœnix, et la plupart des fonctionnaires qu’il croisait ” s’exprimaient en faveur de la fermeture des écoles “. ” C’est ce qui explique pourquoi Amode Taher, en tant que parent lui-même, a exprimé son opinion, dans les circonstances que je viens de décrire “, dit-il. Il devait également exprimer sa totale satisfaction, en tant que président de la GTU, pour le travail effectué par M. Taher au niveau de sa zone, qui comprend les régions de Vacoas et Quatre-Bornes et s’étend jusqu’au Morne.
Vinod Seegum dit ne pas être d’accord avec la façon de faire du ministère et du ministre de tutelle envers M. Taher. En agissant ainsi, dit-il, ” on est en train de saper le moral des fonctionnaires “. ” Certains sont dépassés par les événements et on essaie de trouver un bouc émissaire. Mais la GTU et la CITU sont derrière Amode Taher et nous allons le soutenir coûte que coûte “.

Mr Taher is someone who views performance as a key to success. Teachers are very much satisfied with his way of handling matters. We must all support him. Hats off to GTU for the stand they have taken.

Amode Taher has landed where he shouldn’t … in trouble. The poor Education Director couldn´t draw the line between being a government official and a parent . He had been despatched by his ministry to take part in a radio programme on the current A flu. Towards the end of the broadcast he was asked the question that interviewers should always refrain from asking. ¨ What is your personal opinion on the matter?”
And Taher plunged headlong into the trap. He forgot that he was not there as a parent, nor to give his personal view. He was a representative of the Ministry and as such he had just to explain the official stance of the government. Talking as a parent and giving his personal view was outside the pale of his assignment.
That said, what is the point that the Ministry is trying to score by harassing the poor Taher? This officer has always been doing his job very dutifully and
conscientiously. Why do they want a written explanation from him? Will they use this to prevent him from going further? Is he standing in the way of an undeserving protégé? What are they expecting him to reply? And what will they do now that Government has decided to close the schools? Will they have the decency to hide their heads somewhere?
Taher talked like a responsible parent, so what? Are not the schools registering a 50% absenteeism? Will government ask written explanations from all officials who refuse to send their children to school?
In a moment of crisis when high government officials should devote all their time solving problems in the education sector, it is really flabergasting to find that sone can still take time out to send cheap queries to their close collaborators. They hope that Taher will still continue doing his fine job at the Ministry.
If it may inflate the ego of some at the Ministry, we beg to apologise on his behalf.
The president of the GTU has again proved that he supports people who mean business. Mr Taher is indeed a gentleman who works in the interest of all teachers. Thus, it is quite obvious that we must all join hands together to support him.

We would like to support Mr Taher in these difficult moments. He is someone who is always keen to help and handle matters in a professional manner. He is one of the best officers at the Ministry. We just hope that these kind of intimidation won’t affect Mr Taher in his good work. Bon courage Mr Taher. You can always rely on the support of trainee teachers.
I personally do not know Mr Taher. But on what I read in the papers and on the website, I would simply say that it is really unfair to that officer. He expressed an opinion and the Ministry took actions only some days after. So, what he said wrong ? It was a crime ?
We are indeed in a critical situation. The swine flu is here. In these moments we must be united and work together. Instead, we see that the Ministry is more interested in obtaining written explanations from a very competent officer. And what about written explanations from HT and those who invaded our schools to carry out meetings leaving our children unattended ? We did not hear anything till now. Justice must be seen to be done and it is not by harassing a hard worker that we would win the battle against the swine flu.
I express my deep concern on what happened to Mr Taher. Just because we are public officers, we do not have the right to express our opinions. On the other hand, teachers and even union leaders { see MMM candidates list }in the private sector are eligible to be candidates in the elections. And they enjoy all priviledges just as government teachers. Where is the Equal Opportunities Act ? Mr Taher expressed his personal opinion. Sa si pas gagne droit dans sa pays la ? Do you imagine the impact on young teachers ? Mr Taher has done much for young teachers by caring for their problems and giving them the opportunity to shine in the sector. We must all support Mr Taher. Instead of concentrating on petty things, the government should take actions against those who used our schools to carry out illegal actions and leaving our pupils unattended. Till now we have not heard about any actions taken against those headmasters. So, please stop harrasing Mr Taher and let him continue his marvellous job. Keep it up Mr Taher ! And thanks for your trust on young teachers. You won’t be deceived.

Public officers should be bootlickers of the government. Et dans l’école privé et college privé banla pé faire politique et encore à la tête syndicat. Encore professer et done leçons et en même temps pé faire politique. Et government pé paye zote salaire. Mr Taher done ene ti l’opinion personelle, zote pé harass li cumsa. Its not fair. So why teachers working in the public sector gets the same as those in the private sector ? Tou pareil, ziste banla gagne droit faire politique et Govenment teachers are slaves of thier master.
Bravo à la GTU ! Nu bizin supporte Mr Taher même si li pas membre dans nu syndicat. Nu bizin bane dimounes competent cuma li. Pé cose performance mangement system mais pé terrorise nu bane best officers. Cumsa zote tou pu peur pu cosé, écrire l’article, etc. Ziste are nu sa. Quand professeur college privé pé pose candidat et pé gagne même la paye ki zote bane collegues dans government lerla zote pas trouve narien ? Cote Equal opportunities Act lerla ? Simply Ridiculous !!! As if Ministry sent Mr Taher on radio-plus to remain silent !!! Why the Minister didn’t go ??? In the future, officers should refuse to go and let the minister himself ‘gagne tou zouré’ on radio.
la liberte d’expression s’applique seulement quand on flatte son employeur et on
leche ses bottes. on n’est pas libre d’exprimer son opinion personnelle quand on est
fonctionnaire. Mais le Dr Taher est trop intelligent pour se cantonner a s’exprimmer
en un esclave soummis a son maitre. il ne peut pas tuer son jugement rationnel et
les recents evenements lui donnent entierement raison suite a la fermeture des
ecoles. Le Dr Taher dit ce qu’il sait mais il sait aussi ce qu’il dit.
