First of all, I salute the iniative of creating a website. It’s a modern and wonderful way of sharing opinions and views. Concerning the abolition of tuition, it’s very simple: Either abolish tuition completely or not at all. Here it’s a policy of divide and rule. If one gets a std 5 along with the tuition package definitely it’s going to create frustration among other teachers. We already know to what extent some of us, it’s sad to say, can go to get that std 5 class. Instead of regrouping teachers the ministry is dividing us teachers. As it is right now, there’s lots of problems associated with free transport for students, where will the government get money to pay an allowance to std 4 teachers? One must be very stupid to come up with such an idea! Secondly the two years span is just bullshit. From my experience a teacher needs to work three years in a class to be able to deliver the goods; in terms of discipline, class management and ofcourse the final academic results. Secondly what if I’ve trained my pupils for two years in terms of discipline which i maintain is very important and after that i get a class which changed several teachers in a year or for some other reasons the kids are not disciplined at all. I’ll have to start all over again while the colleague who does upper classes with my ex pupils take all the credits! If the minister wants to do a real reform, he must listen to all parties. We are the ones on the front line “lor terrain”. It’s not by sitting within four walls that important decisions concerning Future Citizens of Mauritius can be taken.

So now small pupils of std IV will have to rush to tuition sessions in garages and other uncomfortable/insecure ‘tuition centres’ after school hours, just like in secondary.

our minister is very cunning, he wants to abolish tuits in std 4 and in the other hand give an allocation to the teachers….. so now the teacheswill get double money as they will get money from the govt as well as from private tuits whivh of course they will give at home……..
